Description

The burials of the fourth millennium BC attest to a rich diversity of elaborate mortuary practices, the imprints of a colourful world of beliefs and of communities with differing traditions and ancestries. Following up previous work on the period’s large cemeteries, this volume explores the period’s other burials, looking at both the visible elements of the archaeological record that can be examined using traditional archaeological, osteoarchaeological and zooarchaeological methods, and the invisible information that can be extracted from skeletal remains using the different analytical techniques of bioarchaeology. The large series of radiocarbon dates allow for a more precise dating of the burials, while the archaeogenetic and stable isotope analyses shed light on the health, the diet and the ancestry of Late Copper Age communities. Taken together, the visible and invisible information provide a more detailed picture of individual biographies and the daily lives of smaller communities.

A Kr. e. 4. évezred temetkezéseinek sokrétű halottkultusza különböző hagyományok, eltérő gyökerű és fejlettségű közösségek széleskörű kapcsolatainak lenyomatát őrzi. Az önálló nagy temetők közlése után a szerzők azt vizsgálták, mit tudhatunk meg a korszak többi temetkezéséről régészeti, antropológiai, archeozoológiai elemzések látható adatain kívül a csontokból vizsgálható láthatatlan információ forrásból, a bioarcheológia különböző módszereinek segítségével. A nagy mintaszámú radiokarbon kormeghatározás, valamint az archeogenetikai és izotóp-geokémiai elemzések rávilágítanak a késő rézkori emberek egészségi állapotára, fertőzéseire, táplálkozására és kisgyermekkoruk helyszínére is. A látható és láthatatlan információk együtt jóval gazdagabb képet adnak az egyéni sorsokról és a kisebb közösségek mindennapjairól.
